So this is what Spencer at nine months looks like...
Yes, that is my son climbing the stairs.
I don't know what happened to our baby gates between Iowa, Colorado and here...
I bought an extra-wide gate a couple weeks ago that was supposed to swing open.
Yeah, that didn't quite work out.
It was super flimsy, the anchors pulled out of the wall, and the girlies couldn't open it.
The goal was for them to be able to get in and out without help...
and without their brother escaping.
So, crapola gate is getting returned to Wally World the next time I'm in town.
I found a good deal on what looks like a nice gate (actually a set of two) on Costco.com.
I'll most likely make that order tomorrow.
It says 7-10 days shipping time.
I hope they're over-compensating because Little Man is determined.
Why can't I be like Elastigirl?
You know, the mom from Pixar's The Incredibles?
I could so use arms that could stretch like that,
especially on car trips when the kids drop things on the floor and won't stop yelling about it until you pull over to retrieve it,
only to have them drop it again 5 minutes later.
I could totally be doing my thing in the kitchen while Little Man makes a break for the stairs.
But would he make it?
No way Jose. My super stretchy arms would totally reach him in time.
Awesomeness.
Anywho, I'm just a mom without super powers.
Do super cute kids count?
I could be known as "Mrs. Woman-with-the-cute-kids-girl."
Nah, doesn't work.
I wonder if those stretchy arms come in a super-strength model?
Because Spencer has gotten heavier.
I'm not sure exactly what he weighs (some milestone tracker I've never been), but when I have to carry him around for any extended period, like yesterday when he refused to fall asleep but was super fussy and REALLY needed a nap, so I carried him around to keep him from screaming (and my head from hurting because of said screaming)... I think my arms just about fell off. I'm guessing he's somewhere between 19 and 20 pounds now.
He's outgrown all of his 6 month clothes (mental note: get bigger clothes).
As you can see he can move around well enough.
And he's getting FASTER.
Did I mention yet that as he climbed the stairs today he kept looking back at me and
laughing hysterically?
He was totally goading me.
What can I say... he's definitely my son.
He ate pancakes yesterday. Not just any pancakes... my super awesome yummy oatmeal pancakes. I made them with applesauce instead of oil this time.
My mouth just watered.
But his biggest accomplishment (well, the one I'm happiest about) is that he sleeps all night long in his crib that is in his bedroom, not mine.
I always forget how wonderful a full-night's sleep is.
But now I remember...
A couple of mornings ago I heard Spencer waking up over the baby monitor.
As I started to motivate myself to get out of my cozy bed far sooner than I'd wanted I heard the girlies go into his room and say their good-mornings.
Then I hear Laura say, "Mommy, Spencer's awake."
Yeah, I caught that. However, she proceeded to say it several times. Then she came running up to our room and Kaitlyn took over the job of reporting every detail of what was going on over the monitor.
The funny thing was that Laura kept trying to talk back to Kaitlyn, like the monitor was a walkie-talkie. Kaitlyn was being hilarious and it was so funny to watch Laura get frustrated when she'd say something and Kaitlyn wouldn't reply correctly.
We finally let her know that Kaitlyn couldn't hear her.
Was it wrong to be so amused? Nah.
Never a dull moment... Aw, I love my kids.
